Construction and design notes for our Qifrey and Olruggio from Witch Hat Atelier. <3

Qifrey’s and Olruggio’s garment pieces were patterned manually from scratch using the draping method and traced onto parchment paper. We sketch, design, and digitize all of our own machine embroidery, and we model all of our 3D models and print them with PLA. Both hats are EVA foam base and covered with fabric.

Our redesigns for Qifrey have a lot of inspirations from his Silverwood tree lore. We manually drew and cut out 80-ish individual tree leaves out of sheer silver fabric, designed silverwood trees on his cape, and some branches/leaves to peek out of his shirt. All his buttons have water sigil on them. 

We also did macrame technique for Qifrey, inspired by one of his alternate outfits, using cotton cords. We dyed a trim to match his macrame cord. One design that is always going to be hidden but we absolutely had to add is the memory erasure spell, which is underneath his hat flap.

For Olruggio, his lapel designs are heavily inspired by the motifs from the manga chapter covers. His buttons have fire sigil on them, and we made a small torch motif brooch.

We added tiny star details on him as a nod to Qifrey describing Olly as “the sky’s kindest, most radiant star” while we kept trying not to tear up as we made these!!

We used faux velvet for his cape because supposedly his velvet cape is so heavy and that’s why he always hunches over. Our cape is also heavy and warm lol.

Both their hat ornaments are swappable with each other. 🥹 We didn't make the ink bottle from scratch, it was an empty bottle that we filled with resin.
