Fire Lord Zuko & Katara
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (movie)
For both cosplays, we made all patterns ourselves via both draping and flat pattern drafting. We made our own machine embroidery designs including the designing, sketching, and digitizing process. We modeled our 3D print pieces and also used both UV and epoxy resin for some of the accessories. The only non-handmade pieces for these cosplays are the base shoes, which are old shoes we modified and decorated.
-Katara-
Her robe and hip wrap fabrics are dupioni silk from Silkbaron. Her pants as well as all other fabrics, including the fur, are from our old stash.
Our favorite part is her robe band, which consisted of different layers of sheer blue fabric of different shades that we applied with freehand satin stitching to emulate the look of water waves.
We also made her waterskin into a purse! Initially we were going to make a faux waterskin but decided to instead install a zipper on the casing so now it is a functional mini purse that can hold small items! The cord on the waterskin was manually braided. She also has manual applique along with rhinestones.
-Zuko-
Most of Zuko's fabrics and materials are from our old stash and we hardly had to buy any new materials for him, which always feels so incredible (less waste is such a W).
We added lots of our original flame motif designs to make his robe as flame-y as possible. The biggest original redesign we did for Zuko was to give him a cape, which has iron-on vinyl designs that we distressed. We also added a blue tassel because I wanted to have a little piece of Katara's color scheme on Zuko so I can live out my headcanon lol. His shoulders, belt piece and arm guards are made from pleather with gold pleather detailing added. He also has rhinestones and hot glue-molded detailings.
