Aventurine & Dr. Ratio
Honkai Star Rail
Penacony is one of our favorite storylines of HSR so of course we had to make these two! Both Dr. Ratio and Aventurine together took us a few hundred hours to finish. We manually drafted most of the patterns and, like our other Hoyoverse projects, was the trickiest phase for us and required multiple re-drafting to get the right drape. Most of the details are applique, machine embroidery, heat transfer vinyl, and ribbons/trims. We modeled most of their accessories, printed with PLA, and finished with resin.
Dr. Ratio
Dr. Ratio's bodice sash, sleeve, belt sash, and capes are made with a blue sheer fabric overlay on a purple opaque fabric. We pleated the top of the capes so they would fall in a gathered type look. We used heat transfer vinyl for the details on the opaque layer and machine embroidery details on the sheer fabric overlay. We actually also added more trim details on the shirt, which unfortunately ended up getting covered by his bodice/sash pieces so they don't show (but they're there!). His armband, the waist band, and the bracers were made of black and gold pleather. For his book prop, we got a base faux book and modeled/printed the details as the book cover.
Per our usual style, we incorporated our original designs into this build:
We designed his waist belt with silver details on black pleather and blue sheer fabric draped over purple, along with little trinkets we modeled and printed with PLA. We also added straps inspired by Greco-Roman pteruges and added similar motifs he has on his shoulder sash. We added some gold to the silver details on his chest to tie it together with the rest of his gold details. We also added a few original accessories and additional details on the sleeve.
Aventurine
The gold details on his tails, back waist area and back roulette design are fabric applique we added over our machine embroidery design. We used trims on his vest lapels and his vest welt pockets are fake because we don't want to add bulk on his bodice but his pants pockets are real! We actually made the details on his back waist area to go all the way up to the front and to the shoulders, except the front details ended up getting covered by his scarf and fur. We made a one-side lining on the underside of his fur so that it can rest better on the shoulders.
Per our usual style, we incorporated our original designs into this build:
We incorporated the spade logo from his D12 dice as machine embroidery details on his coat and on the roulette detailing on his back (and you can spin the roulette!). We added gold fabric on his pants' side seams and straps with card suit logos to match the vibe of our Dr. Ratio's pteruges-inspired straps. We added additional ribbons and accessories and patterned his cuffs slightly inspired by his boss form's.
